Online Professional Learning for Teachers and Administrators

This professional learning series, Supporting Teaching and Learning in Transitional Kindergarten (TK), is comprised of four courses. Each course contains one to three modules and can be accessed online and completed at your own pace in the setting of your choice.

Once you have completed all the required materials within a course, select "Evidence of Course Completion" at the bottom of the Activity Menu and download your Course Certificate that provides the number of hours in professional development earned for that course.  

This series, offered by the California Department of Education, provides TK educators with resources and instructional approaches for TK programs. To learn about optional continuing education units (CEU) that are available, visit the CEU information page.

In this course you will learn about:

  • legislation and policy regarding transitional kindergarten,
  • the benefits of transitional kindergarten for young children,
  • the importance of age- and developmentally-appropriate practices in transitional kindergarten programs,
  • how to best support transitional kindergarten teachers, and
  • key resources to support transitional kindergarten implementation.


In this course you will learn about:

  • social-emotional development with an emphasis on self,
  • the integrated nature of language and literacy, and
  • supporting English language development.

In this course you will learn about:

  • social-emotional development with an emphasis on social interaction,  
  • language development, and
  • supporting number sense in mathematics.

In this course you will learn about:

  • social-emotional development with an emphasis on relationships,
  • foundational skills for reading, and
  • supporting geometry in mathematics.
